Evangelism isn’t just a buzzword in Christian circles—it’s the heartbeat of the Great Commission. It is a beggar telling another beggar where to find food.
Man is a spirit being and the safety of his soul in eternity is a great thing of concern. Because of this concern, Jesus instructs us in Matthew 28:19-20 to
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: [20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen
While the message of the gospel never changes, the methods used to share it can vary greatly.
So, What Are the Types of Evangelism?
Here are a few;
1. Relational Evangelism
Building genuine relationships and earning trust over time. This method is often the most effective in today’s skeptical culture.
People tend to sometimes believe because a friend or relation said so. Their acceptance of a culture stems from their connections to the source. This is why worldly influencers possesses some level of control over the society in morality, fashion etc
When Jesus was calling the disciples, we saw cases where one who met Jesus went and called either a sibling or a friend who ended up following Jesus too. See Matthew Chapter 4
Use your relationships and influence over people to talk about Jesus.
2. Testimonial Evangelism
Sharing your personal story of how Jesus has impacted your life. It’s powerful because no one can argue with your experience.
Share your encounters and salvation experience, it will sure bless someone out there.
3. Confrontational Evangelism
This involves bold, direct proclamation—like what Peter did on the day of Pentecost. It is a pattern highly supported by Jesus. Matthew 28:19 said “Go Ye into the world…” and share tracts, preach, invite people to true Bible study and prayer meetings.
4. Lifestyle Evangelism
Living in such a way that others see Christ through your actions, kindness, and integrity. This reveals our practical commitment to the Lord and His Word. And Jesus says in Matthew 5:14 KJV “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”
5. Service Evangelism
Demonstrating the love of Christ through acts of service. Think about mission trips, food distribution and helping a neighbor.
The purpose of this is for them to see the kindness of God manifested through you.
6. Creative Evangelism
Using art, music, drama, writing, or social media to share the message of the gospel in engaging and modern ways. We have platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook which are an effective place to share the gospel of Jesus.
The Takeaway
Evangelism isn’t about pushing people or winning arguments—it’s about loving people enough to share the hope you’ve found in Jesus. Jesus didn’t change us through pressure or debate. He did it through, sacrifice, patience, love, and authenticity.
Engage in evangelism today! Talk about Jesus and what He did on the cross!
It is your responsibility to God and His kingdom.
Godbless you
